Education

Sara Martín Colomo received her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2020 from University Carlos III of Madrid. During this degree, she also had the opportunity to be studying one semester at the University of Sydney. She developed her final degree project at the department of bioengineering of the university, which was based on the optimization of human plasma and fibrinogen hydrogels as keratinocytes culture systems.
In 2021, she received her master’s degree in Biomaterials from University Complutense of Madrid. She completed her final master thesis in the General Organic Chemistry Institute of CSIC (IQOG-CSIC) with a JAE-Intro scholarship, within a project focused on the development of novel smart polymeric materials for the controlled release of antitumoral drugs. Since July of 2021, her knowledge about biomaterials was improved for 10 months more by working as a trainee student in the research group of “Molecular Mechanics of the Cardiovascular System” at CNIC, within a project based on the development of protein-based biomaterials that resemble the tuneable elasticity of the muscle.
She has joined Polymat for her PhD studies on June 2022, under the supervision of Prof. Aitor Larrañaga.

Research

Sara Martín Colomo is currently working on a PhD research project within the group of Prof. Aitor Larrañaga of Polymat (Group of Science and Engineering of Polymeric Biomaterials). This project is done under the cosupervision of the Prof. José Ramón Pineda from the Laboratory of Neural Stem Cells and Neurogenesis of Achucarro research centre.
The research project is focused on the study of polymeric hydrogels for promoting cell-biomaterial interactions to accelerate neural differentiation of human dental-pulp stem cells, with the aim of providing a therapeutic result regarding neural tissue regeneration
