Education

Rakesh Kumar Maji earned his Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in Chemistry in 2016 from Raghunathpur College affiliated with Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University, West Bengal, India. In 2018, he received his Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in chemistry with a specialization in organic chemistry from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur, India.  The M.Sc. project entitled “Kinetic and mechanistic study for the nation reaction of a platinum complex containing pyridine derivative” was supervised by Prof. Dr. Sankar Chandra Moi. (NIT Durgapur). 

In 2021, he completed his two-year professional teacher training course in Education from the West Bengal University of Teachers’ Training, Education Planning and Administration (WBUTTEPA), West Bengal, India. In August 2021, he received a competitive GATE-M.Tech. Fellowship and started his Master of Technology (M.Tech.) journey at IIT Kharagpur.

In June 2022, he was selected for the prestigious DAAD-KOSPIE fellowship. In May 2023, he successfully defended his Master of Technology (M.Tech.) thesis and he has completed his Master of Technology (M.Tech.) Degree in Materials Science and Engineering with Specialization in the field of polymer from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, India in June 2023.

The M.Tech project entitled “Polymersomes based on azobenzene-containing amphiphilic block copolymers: potential artificial organelles” was performed at IPF Dresden, Germany under the joint supervision of Prof. Dr. Susanta Banerjee (IIT Kharagpur) and Prof. Dr. Brigitte Voit (TU Dresden) & Dr. Dietmar Appelhans (IPF Dresden) was sponsored by DAAD.

In November 2023, he joined the Responsive Polymer Therapeutics Group (POLYMAT) to carry out a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Marcelo Calderon (POLYMAT). 

Research

Rakesh Kumar Maji worked with platinum complexes containing Pyridine derivatives and studied kinetic and mechanistic characteristics in his Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree.

In October 2022, he joined as a DAAD-KOSPIE Scholar in the Bioactive and Responsive Polymers group at IPF Dresden, Germany, and did his M.Tech. thesis work under the joint supervision of IIT Kharagpur and IPF Dresden, Germany. In his Master of Technology (M.Tech.) project work, he worked with the synthesis of azobenzene-containing amphiphilic block copolymer by ATRP polymerization and formation of polymersomes based on azobenzene-containing amphiphilic block copolymers and its application in the future establishment of artificial organelles. 

In November 2023, he obtained a prestigious PhD fellowship to work on nanogel preparation for the treatment of genetic diseases at POLYMAT under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Marcelo Calderon. His research is focused on the synthesis, characterization, and the application of nanogels for the treatment of genetic diseases.
