Education

Dr. Guinea holds a PhD in Electrochemistry from the University of Barcelona, where her research focused on advanced oxidation processes for water treatment. She completed research stays at the University of Guelph (Canada), University of Castilla-La Mancha, and IIQAB-CSIC (Barcelona). She also holds a Master's degree in Applied Research in the Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry (IUCT) and a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of La Rioja.

Research

Dr. Elena Guinea is Project Manager at POLYMAT, where she is responsible for the coordination and strategic development of research projects, with a strong focus on National and European competitive funding. Her work covers the full project cycle: identifying funding opportunities, preparing proposals, coordinating partners, managing budgets, and overseeing reporting activities. She also supports researchers during the proposal writing and submission process, and contributes to the successful negotiation and execution of collaborative projects.
Before joining POLYMAT, she worked as R&D Project Coordinator at CIC energiGUNE (2024–2025), where she managed over 20 projects/proposals funded through various national and international programs. During this time, she gained hands-on experience working within the framework of the UNE 166002:2014 standard for R&D&I management.
From 2010 to 2023, she developed her career at Fundación CIDETEC, initially as a researcher and Principal Investigator in metal electrodeposition using ionic liquids, and later as Project Manager in the Surface Engineering Unit. There, she played a key role in numerous national and European projects, particularly focused on electrodeposition of coatings, electrochemical technologies, and advanced surface treatments and characterization.
Between 2009 and 2010, she also served as Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona, combining teaching responsibilities with the final phase of her PhD.
