Education

Emelin Luna received her B.Sc. Degree in Chemical Engineering by the Universidad de San Buenaventura (Colombia), in 2016. During her bachelor studies, she worked on the design and simulation of Sustainable Chemical Processes, carrying out her thesis about the synthesis of Bio-Ammonia through the gasification of empty fruit bunches. In addition, she worked as research assistant in the area of Reactive Chemicals at the Mary Kay O'Connor Process Safety Center (Texas A&M University) under the supervision of Prof. Sam Mannan. Then, in April 2021 she received her M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano (Italy), obtaining a specialization in Chemical Product Design. Along her master degree she worked on the synthesis of polymeric nanoparticles for the treatment of wastewater produced in off-shore platforms and also in the synthesis of acrylamide-free flocculants. For her thesis project she worked on the analysis of polymers miscibility by means of Optical Interferometry.

Research

Emelin is currently a PhD student under the guidance of Dr. Haritz Sardon (EHU/UPV) and Dr. Steven De Meester (UGent). Her research topic is focused on the Chemical Recycling of Polyethylene and Polycarbonate.
