Education

Dr. Fernando Ruipérez achieved his BSc in Chemistry (2002) and PhD in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry (2007) in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. During his PhD he focused his work in the theoretical study of the structural and optical properties of ionic crystals doped with lanthanide and actinide impurities, using highly correlated ab initio methods of quantum chemistry, including solid-state techniques and relativistic effects.

Between 2007 and 2009 he performed postdoctoral stays in the Technical University of Berlin and in the University of Stockholm. His research mainly consisted in the study of molecular systems of interest in nuclear technology. Since 2010 he has worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Theoretical Chemistry Group of the University of the Basque Country, in Donostia-San Sebastián, where has been involved in reasearch projects focused in nanotechnology and biophysics, covering topics such as small metal clusters, reactive oxygen and nitrogen species and aluminum chemistry.

Research

His research interests are focused on the simulation at the quantum scale of structural properties, reactivity and design of polymers and catalysts. He is also interested in the study of molecular luminiscence, p-electron systems and organic electronics.
