Education

Chetan Jagtap holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry (2019) and a Master's degree in Organic Chemistry (2021) from Moolji Jaitha College, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon. Currently, he is pursuing his PhD at POLYMAT under the supervision of Dr Leire Sangroniz.

Research

While completing his master's he worked as a Junior Chemist at Oskar Hallmark Centre, where he worked with XRF instruments and Fire Assay techniques to analyse and certify the purity of precious metals. This role provided him with exposure to quality control, data interpretation, and regulatory compliance.
After completing his Master's degree, he joined Aurore Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd. in 2022, a leading supplier of APIs and intermediates for the global pharmaceutical industry. His core responsibilities involved the synthesis of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), including Tofacitinib citrate and 7-Chloro-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrobenzo[b]azepin-5-one (a Tolvaptan intermediate). He handled sensitive reactions involving organolithium reagents such as n-Butyllithium (n-BuLi) and worked with key reactions including Tosylation, Nucleophilic Substitution, Cyclization, Hydrogenation, and Ester Hydrolysis. Additionally, he participated in scaling up reactions to 300–400 kg batches, collaborating with production teams to adapt lab-scale procedures for industrial implementation. His work focused on optimizing parameters to ensure safety, consistency, and yield.
In September 2023, he joined CSIR–NCL, Pune as a Project Associate-II under the supervision of Dr. Asha S. K., focusing on the synthesis and characterization of aromatic polyamides such as poly(para-phenylene terephthalamide) and poly(meta-phenylene isophthalamide). His research involved low-temperature solution polycondensation to achieve specific inherent viscosities suitable for high performance fibre applications. He also contributed to the design and setup of a pilot-scale process for 1 kg batch production of polyamides. He also worked on the fibre spinning process of aramids in collaboration with the Bombay Textile Research Association (BTRA) gaining hands-on experience in post polymer applications.
