Education

Neda Khatami received her BSc is Chemical Engineering from the Sahand University of Technology, Iran in 2014. Her bachelor’s thesis was focused on Material’s Flow Cost Accounting in Kashi Tabriz Industry. She was awarded her MSc degree in Chemical Engineering-Biotechnology from the same university in 2017. During her master’s studies, she had worked on employing alginate/collagen/ nano-Silica microcapsules for bone tissue engineering. After finishing her MSc studies, she worked in Tabriz Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry for 1 year as a chemical engineer after which she went back to the tissue engineering lab to continue her research studies on chitosan- and pectin-based hydrogels for wound healing and cartilage tissue reconstruction. In 2020, she joined CIC biomaGUNE, Spain to conduct research on chitin and chitosan for biomedical applications. In January 2022, she started her PhD in CIC biomaGUNE and POLYMAT under the supervision of Prof. Ander Abarrategi and Prof. Sandra Camarero.

Research

Neda Khatami is currently working on a PhD research project between the research groups of Prof. Ander Abarrategi (Regenerative Medicine Group) and Prof. Sandra Camarero (The BioSmarTE group). Her PhD project is entitled: “3D printed models to study cartilage-immune crosstalk”. Specifically, the immune response and the capacity of chitin and chitosan-based 2D and 3D-printed structures will be assessed for being used in bone and cartilage tissue regeneration.
