Education

Irene Bertolo earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, specializing in Bionanotechnology. For her master's thesis, she conducted research at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, focusing on the development of an injectable hydrogel for the delivery of nucleic acid therapeutics. Currently, Irene holds a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Ph.D. fellowship as part of the TheraTools European project (https://theratools.eu/). In the scope of this project, she spent one year working with the COMPASS research group at the University of Aveiro in Portugal before joining the BioSmarTE group at POLYMAT.

Research

Irene is now part of an MSCA Joint Doctorate program under the supervision of Dr. Sandra Camarero Espinosa. Her Ph.D. project focuses on the development of advanced tridimensional in vitro models of glioblastoma for efficient drug testing.
