Education

Ane Urigoitia Asua earned her B.Sc. in Biotechnology by the University of the Basque Country in June 2016. Her bachelor thesis project focused on studying the reuse of enzymes immobilized on magnetic particles.
In June 2020 she obtained her double Master's degree in Biofabrication in a joint master between the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands, and the University of Wollongong, Australia. In Utrecht, she worked under the supervision of Dr. Riccardo Levato on the Digital Light Polymerization (DLP) printing of new bioinks with perfusable channels for vascularization. In Wollongong, she worked under the supervision of Dr. Zhilian Yue on the development of a bioink for co-axial extrusion printing of pancreatic islets.
She has also worked in industry, in Biolan Microbiosensores in 2016-2017, in Progenika Biopharma in 2020-2021, and in CICbiomaGUNE in 2022 as a lab technician before starting her PhD.
Since November 2022 she is a PhD student between CICbiomaGUNE and Polymat under the supervision of Dr. Dorleta Jimenez de Aberasturi (CICbiomaGUNE) and Dr. Irune Villaluenga (Polymat).

Research

Past research has concerned the synthesis and characterization of biomaterials, cell culture and differentiation, and applying different printing techniques.
The current PhD research is about 3D printing dynamic alveolar (lung) models imitating breathing motions, for in vitro modeling and drug testing purposes.
