Education

Ion Olazabal Lorea earned his B. Sc in Chemistry from the University of the Basque Country in June 2018. During his degree project he worked on the synthesis of isocyanate-free poly(hydroxyurethane) to create self-healable materials based on ionic supramolecular networks. He did the Master in Chemistry and Polymers in the University of the Basque Country obtaining the specialization in polymers in 2019. During his Master thesis he worked on the depolymerization of polyurethanes under the supervision of Dr. Haritz Sardon.

Research

Ion is currently a PHD student under the guidance of Dr. Haritz Sardon. His research is focused on chemical recycling of polymers, such as polyurethanes, into new valuable monomers and the use of these monomers in a circular economy approach, employing them to recover the original polymer or to create new materials with enhanced properties.
