A postdoctoral position is available in the group of Prof. Marcelo Calderón (Responsive Polymer Therapeutics) at the Basque Center for Macromolecular Design and Engineering, POLYMAT Fundazioa (www.polymat.eu), San Sebastian, Spain.
We offer a highly multidisciplinary industrial postdoctoral research project at the intersection of biology, polymer science, and engineering. The project focuses on the design, fabrication, and characterization of hydrogels and films for wound care and other biomedical applications. Applicants must have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in Polymer Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, or similar, with a strong background in the synthesis of functional polymer materials for biomedical applications.
Applicants should have a strong record of innovative scientific accomplishments as evidenced by first-author papers published or accepted in international recognized journals and patents. Previous experience working in R&D with/in companies is highly desired. Qualified candidates must also demonstrate outstanding communication skills, have a strong passion and commitment to science and technology, and work well within a group. Good command of written and spoken English is a must. If preselected, a videoconference interview will be carried out before any other appointment is made.
The selected candidate is expected to conduct research, perform thorough characterization of hydrogels for biomedical applications (rheology, texturometry, NMR, DLS, etc.), write papers, reports and proposals, and establish interdisciplinary collaborations. The position will also involve supervision of undergraduate students and the development of research projects with strong translational character. The research work will be done at the interface between the research group of Prof. Marcelo Calderón and a company active in the healthcare sector.
