POLYKEY secures €1M project to advance circular materials for wind energy

The POLYMAT spin-off Polykey Polymers has secured €1 million in funding from the Instituto para la Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía through the RENOCICLA programme (NextGenerationEU) to lead the ZefInnov project. The initiative will develop bio-based, circular coatings aimed at extending the lifetime of wind turbine blades while enabling more sustainable end-of-life management.

The project builds on one of Polykey’s patented technologies for producing bio-based polymer materials with reduced reliance on fossil resources. ZefInnov will also strengthen the company’s R&D and production capacity while reinforcing collaboration with partners including Universidad del País Vasco (EHU), CIDETEC Surface Engineering, CIC biomaGUNE and AIMPLAS.

Founded in 2020 by Coralie Jehanno and Andere Basterretxea, Polykey develops bio-based materials, chemical recycling technologies and advanced materials for energy storage and bioelectronics, translating polymer research into industrial applications.
