Celebrating 50 Years of the Faculty of Chemistry
Last Friday, the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of the Basque Country (EHU) celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Kursaal in Donostia-San Sebastián, bringing together more than 500 students, alumni, staff, and institutional guests.
One of the most inspiring moments was the talk by Prof. José M. Asua, who shared how POLYMAT was created, why it emerged, and its journey until today. POLYMAT was born driven by the ambition to push polymer research in the Basque Country to the highest level. Today, that vision has become a world-class research center.
The event also highlighted the long scientific tradition of chemistry in the Basque Country and the transformative role the Faculty has played in shaping Donostia into a City of Science, giving rise to centers like POLYMAT, CIDETEC, CFM, and DIPC, among other spin-offs.
A wonderful celebration of people, history, and the future of chemistry.
Here’s to the next 50 years! ⚗️
