Carlos Castor obtained his B.Sc., M.Sc. and D.Sc. in Chemical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, UFRJ (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). During his doctorate (2010-2014), he worked at CONICET, at the Universidad Nacional del Sur (UNS), in Bahia Blanca (Argentina), developing numerical methods to describe the mass molar distribution of macromolecules. Additionally, he worked at the ENSIACET (Toulouse, France) by developing new experimental apparatus for microreactor polymerization and copolymerization under on-line monitoring in Raman.

His post-doctoral research experience is large. In 2015 he moved to the United States where he worked as a postdoc at Tulane University (New Orleans, LA) working with semi-batch and continuous solution polymerization process in an automatized manner by using ACOMP system (nowadays under Fluence Analytics) funded by the Department of Energy (DOE). In 2016, he went back to Brazil to work as a Research Engineer, at the UFRJ, on sponsored projects with private companies. Most of those projects were in the numerical simulation area (CFD and developing simulators). In 2019, he moved back to the United States where he worked as a postdoc at the University of Kansas (KU, Lawrence, Kansas) on continuous flow (under both gas-liquid and liquid phase) and photochemistry in microreactors for production and optimization of oligomers/telomers. For almost three months, in 2021, he worked at the University of Nottingham (UoN, UK) in controlled catalytic transfer polymerization to produce oligomers applied to vaccines. Since November 2021, Castor joined POLYMAT in November 2021 as a postdoc in the polymerization process group.


Dr. Carlos Castor primary research focus on designing new experimental systems for producing polymers under desired conditions (batch and continuous processes). Additionally, he has interest in mathematical modeling and developing new process simulators mainly related to the polymerization area and oil industry.
