Education

Andrea Melissa Cabrera obtained BSc in Chemistry (2015) and MSc in Chemistry (2018) from Universidad del Valle, Cali – Colombia. In the last year of her BSc degree, she worked in a project titled "Synthesis of fullerene derivatives for supramolecular applications" under the supervision of Prof. Manuel N. Chaur. During the MSc studies, she performed her thesis in the laboratory of Prof. Alejandro Ortiz Gonzalez where she carried out a research project based on synthesis and study of electronic properties of fullerene-BODIPY derivatives and she was awarded the Meritorious Recognition for her research work.

She spent the summer of 2014 in Prof. Echegoyen's lab at University of Texas at El Paso, where she gained experience in the field of fullerene's chemistry and synthesis and properties of electroactive compounds for photovoltaic application. In her MSc period, she spent 3 months in the Applied Functional Polymers Group at University of Bayreuth under the supervision of Prof. Mukundan Thelakkat. There, she was focused on synthesis of complex molecules based in multi[60]fullerene-BODIPY.

Research

Her research has been focused on the design, synthesis and study of photophysical and electrochemical properties of electroactive molecules for their incorporation in photovoltaic applications.
