Education

Richard Schönlein obtained his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in 2015. During the academic year 2014/15 he was awarded with the Ontario Baden-Württemberg (OBW) scholarship an academic exchange abroad at University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

In the year 2017, he received his master's degree in mechanical engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) with majors in polymer engineering and reliability of materials. For his thesis he worked on solutions for printed flexible electronics on thermoforming substrate followed by back-injection molding at Walter Pack Group (Spain) under supervision of the University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU).

After his studies he worked until the beginning of 2020 as a research assistant at the Institut für Kunststofftechnik (IKT) at the University of Stuttgart in the field of polymer processing technologies including injection molding, in-situ pultrusion and fused filament fabrication (FFF). He focuses on processing technologies for biobased and biodegradable polymers, natural fiber reinforced plastics and thermal conductive thermoplastic.

Research

Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Material Science and Engineering for Piezoelectric polymers at the Basque Center for Macromolecular Design and Engineering in POLYMAT under the supervision of Dr. Jone Muñoz and Dr. Roberto Hernandez.
