Education

Andere Basterretxea Gorostiza earned her BS in Biology from University of the Basque Country, Spain, and her Erasmus Mundus MSc in the University of Bordeaux (France) and the University of Liège (Belgium). During that period, she obtained a Mediterranean Office for Youth scholarship that recognizes academic excellence.

In 2014 she spent one year in the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering of Yamagata University (Japan), where she worked in the synthesis of polymers and in the study of antimicrobial activity and biocompatibility of polymers.

She joined POLYMAT in September 2015 as part of the European project SUSPOL being recipient of the Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher fellowship.  In September 2019 she obtained the PhD from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the University of Mons (Belgium), having made also an internship at Virginia Tech (USA) as part of The Long Research Group.

Her thesis entitled `` Non-Eutectic Mixture Organocatalysts: a step towards high temperature polymerizations ´´ was recognized as the best Spanish polymer thesis of 2019 by the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry and the Specialized Group of Polymers, and has resulted in the registration of a patent.

Research

 

Since October 2019, she works as post-doctoral researcher in the Innovative Polymers Group headed by Prof. David Mecerreyes and Dr. Haritz Sardon studying the use of less hazardous organocatalysts and bio-based monomers to prepare high added value polymers.
