Education

 

Fermin Elizalde earned his B. Sc in Chemistry from the University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in 2016, and he carried out a summer internship in polymer processing at the same university.

 

In September 2017 he earned his Master´s degree in Chemistry and Polymers with specialization in polymeric materials from the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU).

 

Research

 

During his Bachelor project, using as starting point RNA-sequencing data from the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster and the fungus Aspergillus nidulans, he learned firstly, how bioinformatics software was run, and secondly, reproducing the protocol commonly used in transcriptomics. Finally, an attempt to identify alternative splicing events was carried out in those organisms.

 

 

 

His master thesis work was carried out under supervision of Dr. Gonzalo Guerrica-Echevarria and Dr. Nora Aramburu. During his research project, the PLA was maleinized by reactive extrusion in different grades. The effect of the addition of the MA on the properties of the pure polymer as well as its compatibilizing effect on PLA/PCL blends were analyzed.

 

 

 

He joined POLYMAT in 2017 to perform a PhD under the supervision of Dr. Haritz Sardon.
