DM graduated from the University of the Basque Country in 1994. He obtained the Ph.D. degree in Polymer Chemistry under de supervision of Dr. Robert Jèrôme in 1998 from University of Liege (Belgium). He carried out a post-doctoral at IBM Almaden Research Center and Stanford University working in the team of Dr. James L. Hedrick and Prof. Craig Hawker. In 2001 he joined CIDETEC where he was in charge of the Nanomaterials Unit. In January 2011, he got an Ikerbasque Research Professorship at POLYMAT, UPV/EHU.


Honors and awards

In 2001 he was awarded with a Ramón y Cajal Fellowship from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology. In 2011 he obtained an ERC consolidator grant for the development  of polymers for batteries. Since 2017 he is collaborator of the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI). In 2020, he got a research excellency award by the Real Sociedad Española de Química (RSEQ). He is one of the funders of POLYKEY start-up company.



He is leading a group specialized in polymer chemistry. The laboratory covers a range of research activities between organic and polymer chemistry, electrochemistry and materials science. The final goal is to synthesize innovative polymeric materials for Emerging Technologies in sectors such as Energy and Bioelectronics. He has published more than 300 scientific articles in polymer, chemistry and materials journals.
