Education

Prof. A.J. Müller is a Materials Engineer (Simón Bolívar University, Caracas, Venezuela) specialized in Polymer Science. He holds a Masters degree in Chemistry (IVIC, Caracas, Venezuela) and a Ph.D. in Physics (from Bristol University, U.K.). At Bristol he studied polymer physics under the joint supervision of Jeff Odell and Andrew Keller.

Honors and awards

2020-2021 The Q1 journal Polymers (MDPI) is devoting a Special Issue "In Honor of Prof. Dr. Alejandro J. Müller on Polymer Crystallization":

2018 Since January 2018 he is an editor of the Q1 journal POLYMER (Elsevier) in the areas of Polymer Physics and Physical Chemistry.

2014-2018 Editor of the Q1 journal EUROPEAN POLYMER JOURNAL (Elsevier) in the areas of Polymer Physics and Polymer Technology

2011 He was awarded the International "Paul J. Flory" prize by the Polychar International Organization in recognition of his scientific achievements.

2009 Corresponding Member of the Venezuelan National Academy of Engineering and Habitat.

2005 "Academic Productivity in University Research" Award from Venezuelan Universities Research Councils (CDCHTS).

1995 "Lorenzo Mendoza Fleury" Prize, Polar Foundation, Caracas, Venezuela, in recognition of his excellence in research.

Research

His fields of interests include: structure-property relationships, morphology, nucleation, thermal transitions, crystallization and crystallization kinetics of semi-crystalline materials and of multiphasic polymeric materials, such as: polymer blends, block copolymers, random copolymers, biopolymers, biobased polymers, biodegradable polymers, nano-composites and hybrid materials. He is an internationally recognized expert in thermal analysis and has developed advanced calorimetric protocols to study thermal fractionation and thermal transitions in polymers.
