Education

Valentina Pirela Wilhelm obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain) in 2017. Her bachelor thesis focused on the optimization of palladium catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura reaction under the direction of Professor Joan Carles Bayón.

During that time, she carried out two internships in collaboration with Lubrizol on the synthesis, characterization and analysis of fluorinated polymers.

She earned a Master's Degree of Chemistry in Bio and Nanomaterials from Uppsala University (Sweden) in 2019. Her master degree thesis was carried out at the Organic Chemistry department at BMC in Uppsala University. The project consisted on the synthesis of glutamine-conjugated fluorescent benzothiadiazole derivatives, that can be used for the imaging of hypoxic cancer cells. The work was carried out under the direction of Professor Christine Dyrager.

Research

Past research has covered the synthesis, characterization and study of properties of polymers and other materials. In addition, other research has involved the synthesis of different organic compounds and  the study of its fluorescent properties, among others.

Future research will include the study of semi-crystalline and semiconductive polymers.

From 2020, she will join as a Ph.D. student at POLYMAT.
