Education

Dr. Nora Aranburu earned her BS in Chemistry from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in 2008, and she obtained her PhD in the same university in 2015. She worked as a researcher at the Technology of Polymers Group of the UPV/EHU until 2019 and, since then, she is an Assistant Professor in Materials Science at the Department of Polymers and Advanced Materials: Physics, Chemistry and Technology of the University of the Basque Country. She is also a member of the Research Institute for Polymer Materials (POLYMAT).

Research

Her research focuses on developing new materials based on polymer blends and nanocomposites by melt processing, establishing processing-structure-properties relationships. She has recently extended her interest in developing biopolymers with advanced performance, aiming for the eventual replacement of the conventional petrochemical polymers.
Dr. Aranburu has extensive experience in the processing and thermal, morphological, and mechanical characterization of polymeric materials. This includes the use of standard equipment employed in processing (extruders and injection and compression molding machines), as well as several characterization techniques: differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical-thermal analysis (DMA), melt flow index (MFI), mechanical tests (tension, compression, bending, impact tests), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the determination of electrical conductivity...
